Вся информация о Storm Surge в Fortnite
Storm Surge?
Storm Surge?
Storm Surge Warning?
Storm Surge?
What is Fortnite’s Storm Surge and how does it work
You’ll rarely see it kick in during your matches.
A special mechanic has been popping up on a few Fortnite World Cup Open Qualifiers streams, and it’s been causing some confusion since it’s so rare in casual play.
A “storm surge warning” may appear during Fortnite matches, and what it means is that players who have the lowest damage dealt during that match will periodically receive damage until the storm surge ends or until they are no longer among the lowest damage dealers. This mechanic was introduced in the v6.31 patch in season six, and its behavior is predictable.
According to the patch notes of that season, “if a certain amount of players are remaining by the time the Storm finishes closing, a Storm Surge will activate.” This was created to prevent overly-passive matches where all players focus solely on surviving instead of eliminating their opponents. Storm Surge activates according to the following pattern:
How to avoid Storm Surge damage
There are two ways of not being a victim of the Storm Surge: deal more damage than the players who deal the least damage, or wait for the player threshold to be met on that match. You’ll receive a warning and start losing health passively if you’re part of the victims of the Storm Surge, so the best and most efficient way is to look for a victim and spray them down.
But the best way of never being hit by Storm Surge is to have a hybrid playstyle. Focus both on survival, but remember to take shots and be aggressive against enemies who are vulnerable to your plays. Fortnite is not solely a shooter game, but it’s also not solely a survival game.
The next time you see a Storm Surge warning in a match you’re watching, that’s what’s happening. You likely won’t see it in your own matches, unless you’re high ranked in Arena, but even there players tend to be aggressive enough that Storm Surge rarely kicks in.

If you’ve been following the Fortnite competitive scene, you may have noticed that Storm Surge is a mechanic that’s exclusive to this mode. In essence, it’s something Epic has implemented in order to help thin out the crowds in particularly crowded matches and encourage more aggressive play from all players. Here’s Fortnite’s Storm Surge explained.
Fortnite Storm Surge Explained
What Storm Surge Is
First things first, let’s give you a general overview as to what Storm Surge is. Simply put, if a certain amount of players are still alive by a specific circle, then Storm Surge will begin dealing damage to those players who have not met a particular damage threshold within that game.
Specifically, the Storm Surge will begin dealing 25 damage to a player’s health per tick, disregarding shield and going straight for a player’s health. It targets players in order of least damage dealt in a game first, before making its way up until a certain amount of players are remaining. We’ve broken down these specifics for you down below.
How It Works in Fortnite
As we’ve already eluded to, Storm Surge is essentially a mechanic to encourage a more aggressive style of play and to help thin out remaining players in the process. A Storm Surge will occur until the following numbers of players are left in a circle.
It’s worth noting, however, there seems to be some uncertainty regarding whether or not Storm Surge will always go for just health, rather than shield.
In this YouTube clip from the ESL Katowice Royale International in March, a player can be seen taking damage from Storm Surge, but it dealing damage to the shields he’s just used in the game.
Whether or not this is something Epic has tweaked since remains to be seen.
Regardless, if you get targeted by Storm Surge, you’ll need to begin dealing out damage quickly, as 25 damage per tick will quickly wipe you out, regardless of whether you’ve got shield, too.
That’s pretty much everything you need to know regarding Storm Surge in Fortnite’s competitive mode. For more tips, tricks, and guides, be sure to check out our Fortnite Season 8 guide wiki for all the help you need with weekly challenges and other events in the current season.
Fortnite: Arena Mode Explained – Hype, Bus Fare, Storm Surge, Divisions & More
ESTNN breaks down Fortnite’s Arena Mode and provides prospective players a guide to follow.
Competitive Fortnite Battle Royale is objectively one of the most complex esports on the circuit today. While other genre titles like PUBG and Apex Legends follow a similar formula, Fortnite has many factors to consider before diving into the chaos. After Epic Games released their iconic Battle Royale title in 2017, the phenomenon began. Fortnite transcended all games before it and captured the interest of the entire world. As fate would have it, competitive Fortnite became a driving force for those who wanted more than just public matches.
Fortnite’s competitive landscape underwent many changes and adjustments over time. Eventually, the developers released Arena Mode as a separate playlist geared more toward competitive players. Today, ESTNN will address many of Arena Mode’s most important parts and give readers with some tangible to reference.
What is Arena Mode?
Epic Games introduced Arena Mode in Chapter 1 – Season 7 for willing players to dip their toes into the competitive Fortnite. The Arena playlist became the go-to for players who wanted to test their building, aiming, editing and rotating abilities against opponents in their designated region. Players could now understand specific mechanics available only in competitive Fortnite like Storm Surge, Siphon and moving zones. Arena Mode also grants access to higher-level tournaments like Cash Cups and the game’s flagship Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) competitions. Players must progress through a ranking system to reach these incentives.
Ranking & Point System Explained
Arena Mode’s ranking and point system can be confusing to newer players on the scene. The developers reworked the Arena Mode point system in Season X, which has held steady since then. There are three leagues in Arena Mode – Open, Contender and Champion. Players start their journey in Open League and must accumulate “Hype” points each game to progress through the various divisions. Those points come from eliminations and placement per game.
Once reaching Champion League, players become eligible for Fortnite’s in-game monetarily prized tournaments. All rankings reset every season, at which point the grind starts all over again. Fortnite Chapter 2 – Season 6 offers three Arena Modes – Solo, Duo and Trio. Here is a comprehensive breakdown of the different divisions and point values in each of those:
